As a rough general rule, I take on new students from age six upwards.  However, every child is different, and the following guidelines will help you to decide if you think your child is ready to start lessons.  If your child is under six and you think that they are ready for lessons then please contact me and I can arrange a trial lesson for your child.

Can they...

  • Read numbers, count to 10 and do simple adding up (eg 2+2=4) ?

  • Read the letters of the alphabet?

  • Physically sit still for 30 minutes?

  • Focus on having fun at the piano for 10-15 minutes?

  • Hold a pen or pencil easily to write with?

If so then they are probably ready to make the most of having lessons.  If not, in the meantime give them lots of musical stimulation at home, and go about arranging lessons for them when they are able to do all of these things.
