I am very happy to enter you
for examinations in piano and theory, from the Prep Test up to the
diploma levels, although there is no pressure to take exams if you don't
want to.
Music exams offer a good structure and can help motivate students
towards achieving goals.
However I believe that a musical diet consisting solely of examination
repertoire and material is limiting, and I like my students to study
other things between exams to advance their technique, broaden their
repertoire and ease the pressure!
-
I
use the world-renowned ABRSM for all music examinations.
- Exam sessions
take place 3 times a year and you can choose to take your exam at a
local centre (usually the Friends Meeting House or the RNCM in
Manchester city centre) or at Manchester High School for Girls where
I am a piano teacher. The advantages of taking your exam at
Manchester High School for Girls are that we can schedule your exam
at a time to suit you, free parking, and most importantly, prior to
your exam I can give you a lesson on the piano that will be used for
your exam-no nasty surprises!
- If you wish to take
piano exams at Grade 6 upwards, a prerequisite is a pass at Grade 5
theory. I normally teach theory as part of piano lessons, but
I also offer separate theory lessons, should you require them.

ABRSM music exam marks can
be used as UCAS points towards university entrance.
