Please ensure that you arrive on time for the lesson.  I am afraid that I cannot extend lessons which begin late due to late arrival.

Parents are welcome to stay to quietly observe the lesson but please only bring siblings if they can sit quietly and listen.  Please keep your mobile phone on silent. It is your choice when to sit in. Some students find it distracting and some work better with their mum, dad or grandparents in the room. After getting to know the student better, I will be able to give some advice on this.   Please discuss your preferences with me. 

If you choose to drop off your child and return to collect them, please make sure that you return promptly for the end of the lesson.  I cannot guarantee that my schedule will always permit me to stay at home to wait with your child until your arrival.  

It is useful for students to bring a note-book to lessons so that I can write down what they need to practice during the week.

Please make sure that your child's fingernails are always kept short so that they can play properly (see Healthy Posture.)

For the most enjoyment and best results, practice should take place every day.  Please schedule your child's practice sessions, and offer them support and praise.  This shows that you consider music a serious commitment.  It's best if the piano is in a room away from noisy distractions, but where you can be close at hand so that they don't feel isolated.

Make sure that your child is able to be seated comfortably at the piano.  The Healthy Posture page shows you how important the height and position of the stool is.
